“When they say everyone is born to do something, for me it is to be a part of the aviation world,” explained Colin. “My grandfather and great uncle were both Australian Air Force personnel. As a child, I enjoyed the stories, photos and memorabilia of their time in the Air Force. Unfortunately, my great uncle was Killed-in-Action (KIA) during World War Two, flying Lancaster Bombers in England. As a teenager, I filled my room with their photos and models, then joined the Air Cadets which guided me to my career in the Royal Australian Air Force.
“Although I wanted to fly, I found greater satisfaction fixing airplanes and started as an Avionics Engineer on the Military F-18 Hornets. During my time in the Air Force, I gained knowledge and experience that guided me toward solutions by thinking outside the box.”
Colin’s background in avionics led him to pursue training at the Air Force Technical School. He took on the role of both instructor and developer of training materials for stand-up/hands-on and computer-based learning. “Teaching in front of a classroom was a bit of a shock to my self-confidence, but it helped define who I am today,” he explained.
Moving to Canada in 2010, Colin initially worked on the updated Twin Otter at Viking Air, obtaining his Transport Canada AME License. He then worked with the Canadian Defense Force on the CF-18. Colin has torn down aircraft down to sell as salvage, managed the technical department for an airline, and managed a team of over 100 technicians at an MRO. Today, he provides PAG customers the parts and services they need.
“Selling a product or service isn’t a one-off transaction. It’s a process that requires a personal connection which goes far beyond a sale. It’s a long-term relationship built on understanding and trust,” Colin explained. “Turning customer needs and wants into solutions that benefit both parties is an art. My training helps me provide solutions, my teaching experience helps me educate operators and guide them toward new or alternative directions to consider.”
“As PAG has grown, our ability to purchase inventory and stock over $150M in flight-ready line items is a game changer. Supporting operators through consignment inventory or inventory supported repairs – ISMRO, eliminates the downtime of waiting for repairs and returns their aircraft to service as quickly as possible.
“Our tagline, “others sell parts, WE SELL SUPPORT” means that after-sales support is part of every sale. We focus on providing the most direct and efficient MRO services around the world. For North American operators, our Vancouver facility offers in-country support and a team that understands Canadian geography. Our ability to manage shipments between PAG repair stations for our customers worldwide is an added benefit. Essentially, we provide the ‘invisible arms’ operators need, but may not be aware of until they call.”
